In the latest episode Warsaw Debateleading editor Grzegorz Nawrocki with TVP planet and Dr. Margaret Bonikowska, President of the Center for global Relations, they address 1 of the most controversial topics of modern global policy: Is atomic deterrence the only real way to guarantee long-term peace? And can we even talk about peace where there is simply a constant readiness for war?
In the context of the war in Ukraine, the increasing tensions in the Indo-Pacific region and the expanding number of countries seeking atomic weapons, the debate explores the dilemmas of disarmament, balance of forces and global security.
The participants faced the thesis: "Only atomic wapons can safe a Lasting peace" (only atomic weapons can supply lasting peace) in the format of the Oxford debate.
Thesis was followed by:
- Prof. Ken Jimbo – prof. of Keio University in Tokyo, elder Fellow at the global home of Japan, recognized expert in safety and strategy in Asia and the Pacific,
- Prof. Jagannath Panda – manager of the Institute of safety and improvement in Stockholm, investigator at the University of Warsaw, specializing in Indo-Pacific issues and global safety architecture.
Against the thesis:
- Wojciech Lorenz – Head of the global safety Programme at the Polish Institute of global Affairs, expert in NATO strategy, arms control and deterrence doctrine,
- Prof. Delphine Allès – prof. INALCO (France), expert on global governance, diplomacy and normative aspects of global security.
