Pro-European mayor of Bucharest Nicosor Dan won on Sunday presidential elections in Romania, defeating the extremist right-wing leader AUR George Simion.
"I congratulate Nicosor Dan on his election as president of Romania. I am convinced that we will proceed to deepen our strategic partnership and we will guarantee that our region is prosperous, strong and safe" - wrote the president on platform X.

Dan won. second circular of repeated presidential elections Sunday with the consequence 53.6 percent of the votes. Simion gained 46.4% support.

Repeated Elections
Sunday elections took place after last December the Constitutional Court annulled the first circular of the presidential election of 24 November 2024.
