The American MQ-9 Reaper drone, assigned to the South Korean Kunsan Air Base, was premeditatedly shot down close Maldo-Ri Island on the Yellow Sea following a communications strategy failure while performing a regular mission. The Americans did not want the drone to be taken over by North Korea or China.
