A fresh public survey shows that as much as 20% of the U.S. population would consider joining Canada. Meanwhile, only 9% of Canadians would like to see their country as the 51st state of the United States.
20% of Americans would like to join Canada as its fresh province, and only 9% of Canadians would like Canada to become the 51st state of the United States, according to the latest public opinion poll.
A survey by Leger in Canada and the US indicated that 20% of Americans would be curious in joining Canada as a Canadian province. The youngest people were most curious in this solution: 30 percent of those aged 18-34 would like to live in Canada. 63 percent of Americans would object to joining Canada, and 17 percent had no opinion.
Meanwhile, among Canadians curious in joining Canada as a 51st state there are 9 percent of residents, 85 percent would reject specified a proposal, 5 percent did not have an opinion or refused to respond. In the 18-34 age group, 18 percent would be curious in joining the US.
Leger investigated the political preferences of supporters of joining Canada into the US. Among the Conservative organization voters there are 16 percent specified people, among Green voters – 12 percent, and the most specified people are among the non-populist People’s organization of Canada (PPC) – 30 percent.
The thought of joining Canada to the US rejects 95% of Liberal organization voters, 90% of fresh Democratic organization left-wing voters, 97% of Quebec-only Quebec-based voters, 88% of Green voters, 75% of Conservative voters and 59% of PPC voters.
In the US, 21% of Democrats would join Canada, but even 17% of Republican voters would be curious in joining Canada.
