Despite the passage of decades since they were first put into service and the introduction of a more modern successor, the legendary HMMWVs (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles) show no signs of retiring. The U.S. Army has just awarded AM General another modification contract worth nearly $99 million for the transportation of Humvee-family vehicles. This seemingly regular contract, however, highlights a much broader problem involving crucial delays in the production of the fresh JLTV A2 vehicles.
