Alexander Kisil: Towards consciousness No. 55- Depression epidemic – who sows it?
date:26 April 2024 Editor: Anna
Do you see that late (since the alleged pandemic) much has been said about depression, creating any centres, funds, etc.? As if individual wanted to "popularize" this illness very much and thus make a full bunch of people addicted to drugs and to big-farm.
From the latest study "Depression inactive powerfully affects Poles. How much does it cost the economy?” Among the most commonly indicated symptoms are fatigue and deficiency of energy (34.3%), temper depression (32.3%), sleep disturbances (27.6%), low self-esteem and low self-confidence (18.5%), impaired concentration and attention (18%). The most frequent are suicidal thoughts and actions (4.4%). In 2023, the number of days of abstinence increased by 7.85 percent due to depressive episodes and recurrent depression from 2022.

An worker who, for various reasons - e.g. shame before admitting a illness - will not take treatment, can be, among others, much little efficient at work. The study estimates that the economy is losing nearly PLN 3 billion a year only due to the absence of people experiencing episodes and depression. But the full cost to the employer is much higher than the estimated amount.
The causes of depression are different: rising prices and little availability of goods, incomplete provision of basic needs for themselves and the family, financial uncertainty and concerns about surviving standards, conflicts at work, sense of senselessness of regular uncreative work, illness and associated problems, fatigue, inadequate remuneration obligations, dominance of work on a private sphere, hard working conditions, bad work atmosphere, bad relationships with the boss, bad work organisation and stress, long hours of work, force to accomplish a consequence without real chances, etc.
People suffering from intellectual wellness problems may have difficulty concentrating, deciding and maintaining a healthy relation with another employees, contractors and customers. The impact of depression is not limited to productivity. Depression can besides affect social interactions in the workplace. People experiencing depression may be little communicative, which affects the atmosphere in the team.
Psychics affect physical health. People with intellectual problems may tend to lead an unhealthy lifestyle, which increases the hazard of physical diseases specified as obesity, diabetes or heart disease. The advanced costs of healthcare associated with these diseases can burden the economy as a whole.
In Poland, at least 4 million people endure from depression. NFZ data say that for 1.6 million Poles over 7 years of age, reimbursement of antidepressants was purchased in 2022. This was 69.6% more than in 2013. From January to June 2023 it was already 1.3 million. The number of sick leavers exposed to psychiatric disorders and behavioural disorders has increased. In 2023 ZUS received 8.7 percent more specified exemptions than in 2022. The insured spent 26 million days of sick leave!!!
Research shows that 61% of workers believe that their intellectual well-being (research and emotional assessment of their lives) has deteriorated over the last 3 years. It's mostly a pandemic effect. The urgent request for isolation, as well as reconciliation of the private and professional sphere, while at the same time worrying about wellness and occupation stability, has created susceptible ground for the accompanying concerns. 20% of Poles face advanced levels of stress.
Empathy in the workplace is failing. Bosses, managers don't care about employees, sometimes they don't respect them. The survey "Closer to Himself - intellectual wellness and empathy at work" showed that only 36% of workers measure empathy as "good" or "very good". In turn, 43 percent of employees were never asked by their superior about well-being. Only 24 percent of people regularly hear this question.
In fact, “ paying attention to employees” is given as the main competence of a good boss. The vast majority of employees and employers are of the opinion that "the manager/direct supervisor should be curious in the intellectual wellness of employees" (74 percent and 66% respectively).
Around 10 years ago, the European Agency for Safety and wellness at Work estimated that the economical losses resulting from stress, depression and intellectual wellness problems were almost EUR 620 billion per year. A 2016 survey in the US says that up to 120 000 deaths per year may be linked to workplace stress.
That's how they destruct us, "press us like lemons," dull our will to act, addict us, depopulate us. They tell us that we are weak, sick, incapable to balance work and private life etc. – and they themselves make situations and conditions for the improvement of depression, then they push shitty drugs. It's a mess!
