On Sunday, August 30, residents of Lublin Voivodeship received an RCB alert due to a Russian attack in the west of Ukraine, and the alarm was shortly cancelled. On the same day, 55 Polish victims of 1943 were buried in Volyn, while Icelanders refused to resume accession talks with the EU between 52.8 and 47.2 percent.
RCB alert sent and cancelled
The Government safety Center warned on Sunday afternoon residents of Lublin Voivodeship that a massive air attack was taking place in the west of Ukraine. The message was about a possible threat from the air. Shortly afterwards, the alarm was cancelled and the services reported that there was no threat in Poland.
The confusion caused a way of distributing messages. The spokesperson for RCB explained that the alert was cancelled while sending the first SMS. Thus, any residents could only get information about the end of the threat. Details of the cancellation of the alert in Lublin are described in a separate material.
The informing mechanics itself is needed. However, the state must communicate clearly and quickly, due to the fact that in a situation of real danger, information chaos costs valuable minutes. For Poles surviving close the border, this means a substance of simple security, not a method dispute over the order of messages.
A Decent Burial After 83 Years
The ceremony of the remains of 55 Poles murdered in 1943 by Ukrainian nationalists was held in Ostrówków, Volyn. The ceremony began at 12 a.m. local time at the site of the erstwhile Polish village. It was attended by representatives of the Polish authorities, the Institute of National Memory, the families of Volyn and the local community.
The Institute of National Memory announced the ceremony as a burial of residents of Ostrowek and Wola Ostrowiecka. Restoring names and graves to victims is the primary work of the Polish state. Iceland keeps its distance from Brussels
The Icelandic people decided in Saturday's referendum that their country should not resume negotiations on membership in the European Union. 52.8 percent of the voters voted against, for 47.2%. The vote afraid the return to talks, not the entry into the Union itself.
Control over strategical fisheries island and the degree of its sovereignty remained at stake. Iceland is owned by NATO and the European economical Area and has wide access to the European marketplace without EU membership. The consequence shows that a nation can reject the political force of further integration erstwhile it considers its own resources and the ability to decide as more important. This is besides a clear lesson for Poland: European cooperation is to service countries, not to deprive them of the right to defend their national interest.
