On Thursday, August 20, RCB sent an alert to residents of Lublin and Podkarpackie provinces, and the military launched aviation and air defence after a massive Russian attack on western Ukraine. For Poles it is simply a concrete signal: war abroad has consequences for our security.
Alert for 2 voivodships
Government safety Center reported that on August 20, it sent an alert about a massive air attack on western Ukraine. The communication went to Lublin and Podkarpackie Voivodeship. He said, “Note! There is simply a massive air attack in the western Ukraine. Follow the messages.’
It wasn't just a text from the administration. It is simply a signal that the Russian war in Ukraine straight forces protective action on the Polish side of the border.
The military has launched procedures
As stated by Polish Radio 24, the Operations Command of Types of Armed Forces reported the launch of military aviation operations in the Polish airspace due to Russian long-range aviation activity. Ground air defence and radio-location systems have reached their readiness.
RCB confirmed on the government website that the alert was sent to Lublin and Podkarpackie voivodships. This is important, due to the fact that after erstwhile incidents Poland cannot afford the luxury of communication chaos.
DN has already written that RCB alert after picking up fighters is expected to patch a dangerous gap. Today's action shows that informing citizens is no longer an addition to military procedures. It becomes part of the defence of the state.
Polish border is not abstraction
Russia attacks Ukraine, but the effects of these attacks are seen and heard by residents of east Poland. Planes, radars, air defence readiness, civilian communications: this is the everyday state of the NATO front. Who in Warsaw or Brussels talks about safety only with the language of the declaration should look at Lublin and Podkarpata.
Media drama is not at stake here. The efficiency of the Polish state is at stake: fast information, clear procedures, real defence of airspace and an allied readiness without giving work for its own territory.
Sovereignty starts with protecting citizens
Poland must aid Ukraine to defy Russian aggression, but it has a first work to its own citizens. That means hard border defense, expansion of anti-aircraft systems, efficient crisis communications and honest telling people erstwhile the threat is increasing.
There is no contradiction between solidarity with the neighbour and the primacy of Polish security. There is, however, a contradiction between sovereignty and a state that warns besides late, responds in an undertone or waits for decisions to be made elsewhere.
