At the XXXIII summertime Olympics 80 soldiers were included in the 215-member Polish team from the Central Military Sports Team. As many as six sports disciplines (judo, archery, modern five-bit, shooting, triathlon and wrestling) were represented in Paris only by players from the “arm of masters”. The largest group of soldiers (17-members) were made up of trackmen. 13 canoeists, 7 shooters and six swimmers and cyclists fought for the medals.
Of the 10 medals (gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze) won at the games by Polish representatives half won by soldiers. On the highest stage, the podium was placed by the specials Alexander Mirosław, and with the titles of Olympic runners-up returned to Poland: the canoeing sword.
