In water samples from the Kochcice water supply (Silesian) dangerous bacteria – enterococcal bacteria were detected. Information about the threat was confirmed by the Silesian Voivodeship, and the situation affects over 3,000 inhabitants of 3 towns in Kochanowice: Kochcice, Jawornica and Lubecko.
Unusable water – what to do?
The State territory Sanitary Inspector in Ljubljana reported that 7 water samples have been tested in fresh days, 3 of which included enterococcal. This means that water from the water supply network:
- not suitable for drinking,
- should not be utilized to prepare meals and drinks,
- it must not be utilized for washing fruit, vegetables or dishes,
- should not be utilized for oral hygiene.
The only acceptable usage is Bathroom flushing.
"The quality of water in the Kochcice water supply network remains under increased sanitary supervision, will be monitored on an ongoing basis by the State Regional Sanitary Inspector in Lublin until the results of the tests are correct" – reads the Communication from the Provincial Centre for Crisis Management in Katowice.
Another case of contamination — Salmonella in Kętrzyn
Meanwhile, in another region of Poland, sanitary services have their hands full. At the Centre for Border defender Training in Kętrzyn (Warmia-Masurian Province) there was a mass food poisoning caused by Salmonella bacteria.
As reported by RMF24, hospitals have already gone 47 peopleand the condition of any required hospitalization.
"There are presently 47 people in hospitals in Giżyck, Pisz, Ostród and Elbląg" – said the spokesperson for Warmia-Masurian SG, Major Mirosław Aleksandrowicz.
Classes at the training center have been halted and medical services are constantly monitoring the situation. Fortunately, as the Border defender officials assure, Officers' lives are not in danger.
What's next?
Both cases show how crucial it is regular water and food quality testing. The residents of Kochcic and the surrounding areas should strictly follow the wellness guidelines and avoid the usage of contaminated water for food purposes. In case of doubt, it is worth reaching for bottled water.
