DELHI— Tata Group-owned Air India (AI), operating a scheduled international flight from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), Delhi to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), UK, aborted its takeoff on July 31, 2025, due to a technical concern.

Flight AI2017, operated using a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, was halted mid-takeoff after the cockpit crew identified a potential technical fault and returned the aircraft to the bay as a safety precaution.

Air India Pilots Abort Takeoff

According to FlightRadar24 data, Air India flight AI2017 is scheduled to depart from Delhi at 13:25 local time, but due to delays, it tried to take off at 14:23 local time.

However, due to some technical issues, the pilot stopped takeoff roll at 115 Knots and returned to the bay.

The flight was scheduled to arrive at London Heathrow at 19:00 local time, but is now delayed due to this incident. The airline has arranged an alternative aircraft to carry passengers to Heathrow.

The flight was operated by an ex-Vistara Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registered as VT-TSN. Further, it is a 4.8-year-old aircraft powered by two GEnX engines.

According to the airline’s official statement, the cockpit crew detected a suspected technical anomaly during the takeoff roll.

In line with standard operating procedures, the crew safely returned the aircraft to the parking bay for precautionary inspections. There were no reports of injuries or emergency procedures beyond the return to the gate.

The airline deployed another ex-Vistara 787-9, registered as VT-TSP, a 2.4-year-old aircraft, to operate a flight AI2017 to London.

The aircraft has 299 seats, including 30 Business Class, 21 Premium Economy, and 248 Economy class seats.
