According to CEC, oppositionist Simion leads the elections in Romania

The opposition organization leader Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR), Gheorgie Simion, leads the presidential election in Romania with 41.32 percent of the vote, and the candidate for the ruling coalition, Crin Antonescu, ranks second with 27.45 percent of the vote, results from CEC data after the calculation of 2.6 percent of the vote.

The presidential elections in Romania took place on Sunday and are held all 5 years.

The first CEC data show that Simion obtained 41.32 percent of the vote, Antonescu with 27.45 percent of the vote, mayor of Bucharest Nicosor Dan in 3rd place with 13.21 percent of the vote, and erstwhile Prime Minister Victor Ponta in 4th place with 12.95 percent of the vote.

The position of president of Romania is sought by eleven candidates: George Simion, leader of the opposition nationalist organization Alliance for Romanian Unity (AUR); Nicosor Dan, independent candidate and mayor of Bucharest; Crin Antonescu, candidate of the ruling organization and erstwhile head of the Romanian Senate; Elena Lasconi, leader of the Union for Romania's Salvation organization (USR); Victor Ponta, independent candidate and erstwhile Prime Minister, head of Romanian National-Conservative organization Cristian Terhesh, associate of the Social Liberal organization of Lavinia Shandru, head of Natiunea Romana organization John-Ion Banu, erstwhile head of Romanian abroad intelligence agency Silviu Predoiu, erstwhile Minister of Education Daniel Funeriu, and leader of the fresh Romania organization Sebastian Popescu.

Under Romanian law, the winner of the presidential election is simply a candidate who will receive more than half the vote of voters placed on the lists. If the vote is little than 50 percent, there will be a second circular of elections in 2 weeks, in which the winner will be the 1 who wins the average majority.
