Legal purchase, criminal consequences
The transaction followed procedures. The IRS organised the auction, Mrs Agnieszka won, paid PLN 60,000, received a set of papers with keys and registered the car in the communication department. On the same day, police showed up at her parents' house, reporting that a female was wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle. It turned out that the luxurious scope Rover was featured in the Schengen Information strategy (SIS) as stolen in Norway.
"State sold, state accused"
“I learned that the prosecution had initiated proceedings against me. I couldn't usage the car due to the fact that it became the subject of investigation. I had no thought I was auctioning a vehicle entered in the SIS register. No 1 mentioned that in the IRS. I've been a fishy in the substance of fence" – reported the victim in an interview with “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
The Prosecutor's Office in Oświęcim initiated proceedings under Article 291(1) of the Criminal Code, providing for a punishment of 3 months to 5 years in prison for acquiring property derived from a crime.
