The Group of Members of the civilian Coalition presented a task on abortion, which went to the Sejm. According to his content, a pregnant female would have the right to a wellness benefit, consisting of abortion in the first 12 weeks. Prime Minister Donald Tusk, at a press conference following a government meeting, admitted that abortion is simply a controversial subject in the coalition. "If there cannot be a government task in connection with different views on this issue, we are ready to submit to the Sejm a bill on legal and safe abortion by 12 weeks in the coming hours," he said at the end of the conference after the government meeting.

Coalitions have different views

Previously, the Prime Minister announced that the Council of Ministers had approved a bill that would let access to emergency contraception without having to have a prescription from a doctor. Donald Tusk stressed that the work on the issue of “the pill day after” had already been completed at the government stage. He besides pointed out that it was planned to let access to this measurement without a prescription for persons over 15 years old.

Marek Sawicki of PSL gave an interview to PAP, where he was asked if his organization would support the abortion project. In his reply, he stated that he did not know what the club would decide. However, he pointed out that there was a large group of Members who would surely be against it.

The 3rd Way has another idea

Sawicki personally stated that he did not intend to vote in favour of this proposal. He stressed that for 30 years he has consistently expressed his views on this subject and does not intend to change them under the influence of current fashion.

"Who in PSL will support this project, I do not know. There will surely be a fewer people, due to the fact that I know that we have different views on this, but in my opinion most of this task will not support it," he explained.

Third Way leaders announced their intention to hold a referendum on abortion. Their plan includes the first step, which is to return to the state before the 2020 Constitutional Court ruling, which considered the alleged eugenic abortion to be unconstitutional. The organization leaders then postulate the organisation of a plebiscite on which Polish citizens would express their position on the liberalisation of abortion legislation.
