On Thursday afternoon, the “PRL bar” on Kunickiego Street in Lublin became a phase of dramatic events. Jerzy Andrzejewski, owner of a well-known kebab bar, was attacked by the attacker. Despite the dangerous situation, Andrzejewski showed courage and managed to overpower the aggressor, which sparked broad interest in both the media and the inhabitants of Lublin.
Conduct of events
The event took place in the area of Śkośna Street, where the "PRL bar" is located. The assailant entered the premises erstwhile there were no customers inside, and demanded a beer seller. Jerzy Andrzejewski explained to him that alcohol is not sold in the bar. The attacker reacted aggressively to this by hitting the owner in the face.
Then the attacker demanded that the money be released from the registry and tried to get behind the counter. Andrzejewski did not intend to quit and faced the aggressor. As he relates:
‘– He started jerking me around, tore my shirt and wanted me to give him the money. erstwhile I didn't react, he decided to go behind the counter. Then I moved towards him to prevent it.”
A conflict ensued between the men and ended in overpowering the attacker. Andrzejewski wouldn't let him escape and called the police.
‘– I didn't let him get away. It turned out to be a Ukrainian citizen. He was taken by police to the police station. In addition, he was to be wanted for another crimes – adds Jerzy.”
Reactions and follow-up
The police immediately arrived at the scene, secured the tracks and proceeded to interview the victim. An investigation is underway, and officers are investigating the attacker's connection to another crimes.
Legal and social context
The attack on Jerzy Andrzejewski falls into a broader context of crime in catering establishments. According to the Police office data, the number of robberies on tiny businesses is increasing, which is simply a major challenge for the owners and employees of these places. The self-defense which Andrzejewski applied is in accordance with Polish law, which allows the usage of force in the event of a direct threat to life or wellness (Article 25 § 1 of the Criminal Code).
It is worth noting the function played by tiny businesses in local communities. Jerzy Andrzejewski is not only known as the owner of "The actual Kebab at the Real Pole", but besides as an active associate of the community, which further emphasizes the importance of his courage and determination in defending his premises.
