A high-ranking police officer gave the Russians confidential data

On 14 July, the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Białystok brought to court an indictment against a high-ranking retired officer of the Central Police Investigation Office who, after leaving the formation, provided advice to a company with abroad – as established – Russian capital. The indictment, RP I Ds 10.2020, covers as many as 11 charges including disclosure of classified information and incitement of public officers to illegal activities.

One of the most serious allegations concerns the usage by the accused, during the period from at least 16 November 2016 to 16 March 2023, of a secret paper signed with the ‘SEPT’ clause, from an operational case conducted between 2014 and 2015 by the CBD. This paper was to be utilized in the course of economical safety advice for a company from the north of Poland whose sole shareholder is simply a Russian company. The content of this paper was found in the defendant's business computer on the premises of the company, in his private laptop and an email box secured by investigators.

Additional allegations include inciting police officers and 1 city authoritative to overstep power and share information, including from databases, to a erstwhile CBI colleague. According to the prosecution's findings, the suspect utilized previously held business contacts, demanding different data and checks from them, which he subsequently utilized as part of debt recovery and advice in the company.

The investigation was conducted by the Delegation of the interior safety Agency in Białystok and the Department of the Interior Office of the Police in Białystok. In addition to him, 8 more people, mainly officers, heard the charges, who were to illegally supply classified information. In their cases, separate investigations are conducted; in 2 final conditional cases are settled. For actions alleged by the main accused, penalties are imposed: from 1 to 8 years in prison, depending on the circumstantial act, disclosure of classified information, incitement, abuse of powers.

The case is controversial: disclosure of classified material and the usage of old business contacts affects public security, trust in law enforcement and protection of classified information. It besides points to the request to strengthen control of erstwhile peculiar services officers who cooperate with abroad entities.

The fact that these were actions taken by the individual in the CBS with a managerial function in 2013-2015 besides informs PAP and Radio Białystok, which emphasize the scale and importance of the case. The case will now go to the territory Court for Warsaw-Mokotów, who will admit the indictment. Current proceedings will most likely be pending before many courts, due to a large number of suspects and complex evidence.
