This year on 11 July, on the anniversary of alleged bloody Sunday (11 July 1943) we celebrate a fresh state holiday: National Day of Memory of Poles – Victims of Genocide made by the CNS and UPA on the east lands of the Second Republic of Poland. The Act of 4 June 2025 on the Establishment of 11 July of the National Day of Memory on Poles – Victims of Genocide made by OUN and UPA on the east Lands of the Second Republic of Poland (Journal of Laws of 2025, item 891) stressed that "the martyrdom due to belonging to the Polish nation deserves to be remembered in the form of a day distinguished annually by the Polish State, in which the victims will be paid tribute".

The Act recalled that "in 1939–1946 Ukrainian nationalists from the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (CNS), Ukrainian Insurgency Army (UPA) and another Ukrainian nationalist formations operating on the lands of the East Borders of the Second Republic of Poland (volyńskie, Tarnopolskie, Stanislawskie, Lvivskie, Polesie) and the present Lublin and Podkarpackie provinces have carried out genocide on the Polish population".

"They murdered more than 1 100 1000 Poles, mostly residents of the village, destroyed their property and led to refugees from east Borders of the Second Republic of Poland of hundreds of thousands of Poles. The apogee of this crime falls on July 1943, and the symbolic date of the hekatoma of Poles at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists is 11 July 1943, erstwhile Poles were murdered in about a 100 localities" - the bill says.

So far, pursuant to the resolution of the Polish Parliament of July 22, 2016, we celebrated the National Day of Memory of Victims of Genocide made by Ukrainian nationalists on citizens of the Second Republic.

In the light of global legislation, the murders committed by Ukrainians mainly in Poles are classified as genocide. According to the latest estimates of Polish researchers from 1939 to 1947, up to 120 1000 citizens of the east Borders of the Second Republic died at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists: approx. 60 1000 in Volyn and at least 60 1000 in east Małopolska (Lvivian, Stanisławskie and Tarnopolskie), in Polesia and Lublin.
