Much of the victims were those who had not been associated with the army before the war. It is estimated that as many as 52% of the dead were civilians mobilized after the invasion began. The percent of volunteers in the Russian armed forces has increased importantly – they now account for 22% of the losses, which means a dynamic increase compared to 14% in November 2023. Many of these people die within weeks of being sent to the front, indicating a deficiency of preparation.
