Norway strengthens military aid for Kiev

Norway expands its commitment to military aid for Ukraine, joining the global drone coalition. The erstwhile priorities of Norwegian support included participation in the coalitions on maritime safety, anti-aircraft defence and combat aviation (F-16).

“Norway already makes a crucial contribution to the acquisition and improvement of drones. It is simply a natural step for us to join the established drone coalition," stressed Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik.

Ukraine urgently needs additional military equipment to defend itself against Russian aggression. Drones and modern drone technologies play a key function in protecting critical infrastructure and actions on the front," added the Minister of Defence.

700 million crowns per drone for Ukraine

Under the late announced initiative Norway donated 700 million kronor to acquisition drones for Ukraine. In 2025, funds from Nansen's programme are besides planned to be utilized for further improvement of drones and related technologies.

Norway strengthens cooperation in global coalitions

The coalitions of defence capabilities, formed in the autumn of 2023, service to coordinate and strengthen Ukrainian armed forces both in the short and long term. At the January UDCG gathering in 2025, strategical action plans for individual coalitions were agreed.

International Ukraine Support Coalitions

Norway acts as co-leader in the maritime safety coalition together with Britain. It besides participates in the anti-aircraft defence coalition (led by Germany and France) and combat aviation (led by Denmark, the Netherlands and USA). He now besides joins the drone coalition, the leaders of which are Latvia and the United Kingdom.

Other global coalitions include artillery support (France), the supply of armored vehicles (Poland), demining (Lithuania) and IT technologies (Estonia and Luxembourg).
