Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenski signed a bill on July 29, which allows citizens over 60 years of age to enlist voluntarily during martial law, reports the portal Kyiv Independent. The fresh regulations are intended to extend the recruitment pool in the face of staff shortages that affect the Ukrainian army.
Under the fresh regulations, persons over the age of 60 may start yearly service under contract, if they pass the medical board and their candidacy is accepted by the unit commander.
An additional request for applicants for officers is to get the approval of the General Staff or another applicable military authorities. The Act provides that Volunteers will execute functions outside direct combat activities, including method or logistical roles.
