After more than 4 hours of evening, Vladimir Putin's gathering with US president Donald Trump's envoy for mediate East Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg ended," Reuters reported, citing Russian media.
This was Witkoff's 3rd gathering with Putin since February; it was organized in the presidential library in St. Petersburg. The Kremlin released only a brief message after him:
‘The head of the Russian state spoke with peculiar envoy of the U.S. president Steve Witkoff (...). The gathering dealt with aspects of Ukrainian regulation.’
Putin's business advisor Kirił Dmitriev said Friday's talks were productive, says Reuters, citing Russian agencies.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Pieskov previously stated that no diplomatic breakthrough on the issue of war in Ukraine should be expected today," AFP reports. Psakkov besides announced that Putin and Witkoff could discuss the gathering plan of the US and Russia presidents.
Before talking to Putin, Trump's envoy met Dmitriev.
Last week, Witkoff hosted Dmitriev in Washington. It was the first visit of a high-ranking Russian authoritative to the U.S. capital since Russia launched a full-size invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
