20. Millennium Docs Against Gravity. Don't be indifferent to the world!

The 20th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Festival will be held in a hybrid formula. From 12 to 21 May we will be able to watch movies in cinemas in 8 cities. From May 23 to June 4, the festival will be transferred to the Internet. Over 180 titles from around the planet will be presented during both parts of the festival.

­ – This is the festival of documentary cinema this year during the 20th edition of the festival will be held at the same time in Warsaw, Łódź, Katowice, Wrocław, Poznań, Lublin, Bydgoszcz and Gdynia, and in the peculiar programme “Weekend with the MDAG festival” another twelve smaller towns and cinemas associated with the Association of Studio Cinemas will present a limited programme of six films – announced the founder and manager of the festival Artur Liebhart at the press conference.

Fanpage events on Facebook are already observed by almost 65,000 users, a profile on Instagram over 11,000. According to the organizers during the Facebook and Instagram festival, they scope over 5 million recipients with information. And it all started with a 1000 viewers and screenings on 1 screen in Warsaw in 2004.

The festival's organizers created an awesome documentary vacation by acting “against gravity”, even in unfavorable circumstances. Most importantly, they were able to attract viewers.

The appeal to the crucial words of Marian Turski – which fell on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau – is not accidental. The papers presented during MDAG are intended to make us delicate to others, to the planet around us, to stimulate thinking. Showing what we don't always want to see. All so that we are not indifferent to the current problems, on the different sides of the 21st century.

Millennium Docs Against Gravity 2023 are as many as 1,300 cinema screenings, 18 different movie thematic sections, accompanying events, meetings with creators, 15 festival competitions, retrospectives...

But above all, it's a gathering with papers that tell about what's disturbing, moving, unobvious.

Competitions, competitions

The beginning gala will be held on 11 May in the guest interiors of the festival partner – Museum of the past of Polish Jews POLIN – and the day later festival screenings and competitions will take place.

Polish accent. ‘Pianoforte’ directed by Jakub Piątek, a postgraduate of Łódź movie – a past of the struggles of young pianists, participants of the Chopin Competition. This is simply a communicative of the tremendous force they feel, frequently preparing for years to participate in this unique competition. In the preliminary round, 160 artists compete, only 12 of them advance to the final. The accompanying camera besides looks behind the scenes, that is, where viewers usually do not have the chance to look. A mix of music, emotion, hope.

‘Innocent’ – an incorruptible paper about compulsory military service in Israel that departs from authoritative narrative. Turns out the militarization of Israeli society doesn't all like it. The characters and characters of the movie are young people who have opposed social and administrative pressures. Realising the material required his creators to be stubborn and courageous.

“In the Theatre of Violence” – for the first time in past a man who, as a child, was at the same time a soldier, faced the global Hague Tribunal and was charged with war crimes of old. erstwhile Dominic Ongwen was 9 years old, he was kidnapped by guerrillas Joseph Kony, known for utilizing children to fight. After 30 years, Ongwen confesses that he murdered women and children, smoked villages, and attacked exile camps.

Different climates will guarantee “Songs of whales” – creatures surviving on Earth for 40 million years! Is their “songs” a means of communication? We will learn extraordinary abilities and the rich, complex social life of whales. Watching the film, we'll feel like we're in the skin of 1 of them.

20 exceptional filmsThe manager and founder of the festival, Artur Liebhart, was elected by the manager and founder of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity and documentary cinema. 10 of them will be presented in cinemas and 10 in the online part of the festival.

“We are your friends” – manager Hubert Sauper confronts us with the realities of Sudan: the beauty of the landscape, the hopes of the people, but besides the fears of another fratricidal war, cultural slaughter. It describes the creation of the youngest country in the planet – South Sudan with a camera. It is worth watching the paper carefully and asking yourself what is the participation of us, the white representatives of Western civilization in the ruthless usage of Africa. In doing her own business at her expense. And why do we proceed to treat her with superiority?

"Three Melancholy Rooms" – Petersburg, Grozny, Ingushetia and their teenage residents. Together with them we learn the reality of the Russian-Czech war. Photos for the movie were shot for 4 years in Russia, Chechnya and Ingushetia frequently with the hazard of crew members' lives. The movie focuses on the victims' experiences and emotions.

Challenges of Nature and Tradition – ‘Shadow wall’. Kumbhakarna Mountain in Nepal is at the same time the sacred summit of Sherps and 1 of the most hard challenges for planet mountainism due to the impregnable east wall. erstwhile a group of prominent mountain climbers take the hazard of gaining the mountain, Sherp Nada must decide whether to go with them as a porter and break local taboo.
