Officers of the Nadbużan Border defender Branch detained 17 illegal migrants who illegally crossed the border from Belarus to Poland, passing the Bug River. Their destination was Western Europe.
The event took place in the area of the Border defender Station in Sławatycze. The officers, utilizing reflection devices, observed a group of people moving from the Bug River – which is the border between Poland and Belarus. Patrol immediately went to the designated area and located a group of foreigners. As it turned out, 17 people crossed the river and walked into Poland without the essential papers and permits.
The detainees were transported to the premises of the Border defender in Koden and White Podlasie. There they were given the essential help, including water and food. In the course of further activities, it was established that they were nationals of Afghanistan and Pakistan. In talks with officers, they admitted to illegally crossing the border and explained that they intended to enter 1 of the Western European countries, specified as Germany, France and Belgium.
Parallel to the detention of migrants, the Border defender captured 2 Ukrainian citizens who came to the border area to choice up foreigners and drive them further west of Europe. Both men – aged 23 and 61 – were detained on suspicion of organizing an illegal crossing of the border of the Republic of Poland. They are facing six months to 8 years of imprisonment.
