Day 777
Today, many messages from the direction of the Avdijiwa appeared
Here the Russians are constantly trying to break the recently formed Ukrainian defence line and cross the Durna River.
After the fall of Awdijiwka, the Ukrainian city of Pokrowsk became another major Ukrainian fortress in this direction.
Pokrowsk is the main Ukrainian office in the area from which they strengthen, reproduce and rotate their soldiers and equipment from the front line.
Therefore, the Ukrainians formed many defence lines to halt the Russian attack if the Russians decided to make Pokrowsk their next major target.
And it looks like the Ukrainians were right
After slow crossing the minefields and Ukrainian settlements behind Awdijiwka, the Russians yet reached the first Ukrainian defensive line behind the Durna River.
The river in many places is besides wide to cross, and in any places it has become a swamp.
Therefore, the Russians are trying to gain access to as many crossing points as possible to increase their chances of crossing the river and creating a bridgehead.
However, the Russians do not control all crossings, including primarily close Umansk, which gives Ukrainians the chance to counterattack the exposed Russian flanks.
Geolocation recordings confirm that Ukrainians conducted many successful counterattacks on Russian flanks close Tonenko, drone attacks on Russian armed forces stationed close the settlement and on Russian positions in the city itself.
These attacks forced the Russians to take immediate action to prevent the possible collapse of their fresh offensive as the Russians began a massive wave of field attacks before Umanske.
The Institute of War Studies noted that these waves of attacks the size of battalions were the largest we have seen since the Russian forces launched a run to seize Awdijiwa in late October last year.
On the first day the Russians launched 3 waves of mechanized attacks
The Russians began the first wave early in the morning and tried to cover their attack with smoke missiles fired from artillery.
Unfortunately for the Russians, they attacked positions occupied by the Ukrainian 25th Airborne Brigade, which had undergone training from Western allies and was equipped with modern weapons.
The Russian attack was so rapidly repulsed
The first Russian tanks were destroyed by Ukrainian T-80 tanks, and the Russian attack rapidly dissolved into chaos erstwhile the remainder was cleared by artillery, drones and further shelling of tanks.
Later during the day, the Russians launched a second and 3rd wave, each consisting of 4 armored vehicles.
During these attacks, Ukrainians besides utilized Javalin anti-tank missiles manufactured in the West, in addition to the already present Ukrainian tanks, artillery and drones.
Despite losing so many armored vehicles and infantry, The Russians managed to cross many fields and take positions in the tree lines.
However, the Ukrainians did not intend to simply let the Russians to establish a permanent position in this place and conducted respective fast counterattacks.
The Russians did not anticipate a counterattack, so the 25th Airmen's brigade utilized the component of surprise to destruct tired Russian formations that had no anticipation of retreat.
All Russian armored vehicles were destroyed or withdrawn shortly after the infantry was dropped, so that they would not face the same fate.
As a result, the Russians were pushed back to their starting point.
A Ukrainian soldier operating in this area stated that the Russians engaged more than 36 tanks and 12 combat infantry wagons only on the first day of storms
Counting only the number of verified geolocation losses of Russian equipment, The Russians lost more than a 3rd of their armored vehicles, 12 tanks and 8 combat infantry cars in just 1 day.
Russian officer Storm-Z stated that artillery and air support was missing during the attack, resulting in crucial losses.
The Russian officer besides stated that Russian forces could yet “overwhelm” Ukrainian defence if they could only send further waves of armored attacks.
After a series of failed assaults, Russian aviation raided the Ukrainian dam and crossed the city of Umansk with FAB-250 bombs
At first glance, the Russian attack seems to be successful, as the riverside road was destroyed, cutting off the Ukrainian crossing north
