According to the data collected for this year's study it turns out that China is seen in the region as the most influential power in economical terms (59.5%), as well as in political and strategical terms (43.9%), ahead of the US in both areas.

Among the eleven ASEAN dialog partners (Australia, Canada, China, EU, India, Japan, fresh Zealand, South Korea, Russia, United Kingdom, USA), China is besides at the top of the ranking list in terms of strategical importance for these countries (average 8,98 out of 11,0). The second was the United States (8.79), and the 3rd was Japan (7.48).

A amazing consequence came from the question: if the region had to ally with 1 of the 2 rival powers (China/US), which 1 should it choose? For the first time since these studies were conducted (2020), 50.5% of respondents chose China and 49.5% of the United States. Last year, 61.1% pointed to the US.

46.8% of respondents believe that ASEAN should strengthen its resilience and unity in order to be able to defy force from both major powers.
